Carbon Cycle Diagram

"Carbon is one of the most common elements on Earth. It is found in the tissues of living organisms, in the atmosphere, dissolved in ocean water, and locked up in limestone deposits that line the ocean floor. This diagram from NASA Earth Science Enterprise illustrates some of the most abundant stores of carbon and identifies some of the pathways in the carbon cycle along which carbon is transferred from one form to another."

Mini Project #1

You are to conduct an Internet search to determine which of the three environmental organizations you wish to join. You need to analyze the mission of each organization, then state your reasons for joining a particular one.

Your choices are:
-Greenpeace
-National Resource Defense Council
-Wild Spots Foundation

"The Greenpeace organizations misson was to protest U.S. nuclear testing off the coast of Alaska with a brave act of defiance: to place themselves in harm’s way. Despite being intercepted by the U.S. Coast Guard, these daring activists sailed into history by bringing worldwide attention to the dangers of nuclear testing." http://www.greenpeace.org/

"The NRDC's mission was to safeguard the Earth including it's people, plants and animals and it's natural system on which all life depends. " http://www.nrdc.org/

"The Wild Spots mission was to save habitats of endangered species" http://wildspots.org/

We chose the NRDC or National Resource Defense Council as our organization because although each organization is equal in importance this particular organization touches all aspects of life. It's main goals are to take on corporate polluters and government indifference in court, help companies and institutions see the 'green' light, and make smart sustainable policies the law of the land.

This organizatuion sued the U.S. Navy and stopped them from blasting the world's marine mammals with deadly hi-frequency sonar. They've partnered with Warner Music Group to revolutionize their music label into the greenest on earth and they've ensured that a half million kids in California are getting tested for lead poisoning every year.

We liked this organization above the others because it has over 1.2 millions members and it offers ways for people to help and get involved in the projects they're conducting. This organziation is also helping us personally as Floridians by ensuring that the promissed amount of restoration for the everglades is being distributed.
